During high school, I first became aware of my musical abilities and the need to express what was inside of me. Close friends of mine played guitar so I thought my best contribution would be playing the bass. I purchased a bass guitar and quickly learned to play it. While jamming with my friends I was able to recognize guitar chord patterns. 

 

Not long after I was playing guitar and singing. These friends of mine and I formed a band and were rehearsing for an amateur hour at school when another friend of mine taught me how to listen for the harmony notes. I soon became very proficient in singing harmony with the band. After high school I continued to play and sing and occasionally would fill in for my older brother, Michael’s, (a gifted keyboard artist) band at bars where he would be playing. At that time, I was playing rock and roll.  Years went by and I discovered that the story lines and tunes for country music were interesting for me, so I began to play more country music. 

 

By that time, I had a wife and 3 children, and we moved to AZ where my brother and I continued to play country music and write songs for the Nashville and Los Angeles markets.  One day, we were in the recording studio and my oldest daughter came in and suggested we write a Christian song. It had never occurred to me to do that, but we thought we would give it a try.  We wrote our first Christian song “When are you coming back?” This song has become a favorite of mine and those who hear it.  As time has gone by, I have become more interested in Christian music.  After moving back to WI, for the last 25 years I have been singing exclusively Christian music. In 2020, my brother Michael unfortunately passed away. Thankfully, we have recordings we made so I can use them as backtracks while singing, playing guitar, harmonica, or mandolin.  Occasionally my family joins me in concert which is always a treat.  

 

Currently I have started a ministry called “Terry’s Music Ministry”.  Through the blessing of God I did 35 concerts last year and this year so far, I am booked for 56.  I mix familiar hymns with newer songs and some that my brother and I wrote.  Christian music is much more rewarding for me, and I feel that where we find ourselves in earth’s history, it is important to share God’s love.
